Careers

Most careers are not available until unlocked by a sim or an event. Most promotions can only be held by one sim at a time. As a sim works their way up the ladder businesses need to be made to accommodate. No one goes off to work without having an actual “place” to go to. Most careers can be passed down to descendants if University requirements are not met or the University is still locked. Once University is unlocked, however, some jobs cannot be obtained by descendants unless they have the corresponding degree (Medicine career as an example). University degree must be the same as career. A Drama degree will not get you a job as a Scientist! Job Stopinator is required. Pet careers are not allowed. Servos cannot have careers (but they can be employees at their owner’s business).

 

Architect *One of the founders must have this career*
Without this career none of the houses or businesses can be built. Architect Sim has this job from day one. The career and major is unlocked once the sim reaches Head of Construction Company (lvl 4). A Construction Company is built. When the sim has reached Architect (lvl 7) an Architectural Firm is built. When a sim has reached City Planner (lvl 10) the Business District is unlocked. Sims without a degree in Architecture cannot advance past Head of Construction Company (lvl 4).  There can only be one Head of Construction Company (lvl 4) and City Planner (lvl 10). City Planners have an office in the City Hall.

 

Treasurer *One of the founders must have this career*
This isn’t a career per se. The Treasurer is in charge of all of the city’s money. Taxes are paid directly to the Treasurer. This sim should be a Fortune sim and have the Investing Aspiration Benefit to increase the city’s money. A Bank is built. There can only be one Treasurer. If the Treasurer dies a descendant will take their place. If no descendant than a CAS sim or a current citizen can take this position. University degree not needed but a degree in Mathematics would sure help! Treasurers have an office in the City Hall.

 

Adventurer (revised 3/26/16)
After a Museum is built (see Natural Science career) the city needs someone to go out and find more stuff to put in it! The Adventurer career is available to all that are crazy enough to try it. There can only be one of each job title in this career ever. Dread Pirate (lvl 6) cannot be reached until Smuggler (Criminal lvl 9) has been met by another sim. Warhead Disarmer (lvl 7) cannot be reached unless there is a Military Base. Hostage Negotiator (lvl 8) cannot be reached until SWAT Team Leader (Law Enforcement lvl 8) is met by another sim. International Sim of Mystery (lvl 9) cannot be reached until the SCIA is created. Space Pirate (lvl 10) cannot be reached unless the Space Station is unlocked. University degree not needed for advancement just balls of steel. This career unlocks the Vacation District.

 

Animal Care (custom career)
This career is available to sims with a high interest (8+) in Animals and/or have the Animal Lover trait (if you use them). When they reach Pet Store Clerk (lvl 2) a Pet Store is built. Once a sim reaches Animal Rescuer (lvl 6) a Pet Rescue Shelter is built and becomes the sim’s new home. A Zoo is built when the sim reaches Zoo Keeper (lvl 7; Business District required). Sims without a degree in Medicine or Science cannot advance past Sea Creature Trainer (lvl 8). There can only be one Zoo Tycoon (lvl 10).

 

Artist
The Artist career is available to any sim that has maxed out their Arts & Crafts enthusiasm. If other criteria is met a Comic Book Penciller (lvl 4) can open a Comic Book Store (see Business Districts). When a sim becomes a Conceptual Artist (lvl 9) an Art Gallery is built to house their art (Business District required). There can only be one Visionary (lvl 10). University degree not needed to advance.

 

Astrophysics (custom career)
The Astrophysics career is available to any sim that has maxed out their Science enthusiasm after the Science career is unlocked. Military Base required. Once the sim joins this career an Observatory is built. Career is unlocked to all when a sim reaches Extrasolar Archivist (lvl 4). Sims without a University degree in Science cannot advance past level 4. There can only be one Astrodynamics Specialist (lvl 7), Premier Cosmologist (lvl 8), Theoretical Theorist (lvl 9), and Astrophysical Legend (lvl 10).

 

Athletic
The Athletic career is available to any sim that has maxed out their Sports hobby enthusiasm. Once the sim reaches Starter (lvl 4) a Stadium is built (Business District required). Once a sim reaches Hall of Famer (lvl 10) an actual Hall of Fame needs to be created in the Stadium. There can only be one Assistant Coach (lvl 8), Coach (lvl 9), and Hall of Famer (lvl 10). University degree not needed for advancement.

 

Auto Mechanic (custom career)
This career is unlocked to any sim that has fully restored a car. An Auto Repair Garage is opened for that sim. Airplane Mechanic (lvl 9) cannot be reached unless there is an Airport (Military Base). There can only be one Master of the Torque Wrench (lvl 10).

 

Business
It’s just business – Lord Business! After a sim acquires 3 owned businesses they can enter the Business Career (sim only not a household) and a Corporate Office is built (Business District required). The career and major is unlocked at Junior Executive (lvl 4). Sims without a University degree in Business cannot advance past Field Sales Representative (lvl 3). Once a sim reaches Business Tycoon (lvl 10) the Chamber of Commerce Office opens in the City Hall. There can only be one President (lvl 8), CEO (lvl 9), and Business Tycoon (lvl 10).

 

Cosmetology
(not really a career) The Cosmetology career is available to any sim that has a gold badge in Cosmetology. Once a gold badge is earned a sim can open a Beauty Salon (Business District required). University degree not needed for advancement.

 

Criminal
The Criminal Career is unlocked to all after the first burglary occurs and the Business District is unlocked (Criminals need a seedy place to hang out). Once the sim reaches Smuggler (lvl 9) a Criminal Warehouse can be built. There can only be one Criminal Mastermind (lvl 10). University degree is not needed to advance.

 

Culinary
The Culinary career is available when a sim maxes out their Culinary hobby enthusiasm. A Restaurant is built. The career and major is unlocked once the sim reaches Prep Cook (lvl 6). Once a sim reaches Executive Chef (lvl 8) they must bring the restaurant to Rank 5 before they can move on to Restauranteur (lvl 9) and open a 2nd restaurant. There can only be one Celebrity Chef (lvl 10). Sims without a University Culinary* degree cannot advance past Waiter (lvl 5).

 

Dance
The Dance career is available to any sim that has reached Instruct in Music & Dance from the Music & Dance hobby. Once a sim enters this career a Dance Studio is built (Business District required). There can only be one World Class Ballet Dancer (lvl 10). University degree not needed to advance.

 

Daycare Provider/Nanny
(not really a career) The Daycare Provider career becomes available once the founder’s children become toddlers. To enter this career a sim must learn Parenting. A Daycare Center is built for the sim (can be their own house). The Daycare Provider receives §120/day the daycare is open. The Daycare Provider will be called to babysit if/when the parents need to go to work. The Daycare Provider earns §75/day to babysit. This sim can also enter the Education field. University degree not needed to advance.

 

Education *It is recommended that a founder has this career*
The Education career becomes available when the first-born child reaches childhood. A Primary (elementary) School is built. Once the sim reaches Elementary School Teacher (lvl 4) the Education career and major are unlocked. The Teacher must stay at this position until the Secondary School requirement is met. Once the first-born child becomes a teen the Secondary (High) School is built and the Teacher sim can be promoted to High School Teacher (lvl 5). Another sim must replace the Elementary School Teacher since they now teach at the High School. The University District is unlocked when the sim reaches College Senior Professor (lvl 8). A replacement Teacher needs to be hired for the High School. Sims without a University degree in Education* cannot advance past Substitute Teacher (lvl 3). Once the sim becomes Education Minister (lvl 10) a Private School can be opened in their name. There can only be one High School Principal (lvl 7), College Dean of Students (lvl 9), and Education Minister (lvl 10). The Education Minister will have an office in the City Hall.

 

Elder Living Community Manager
(not really a career) Sick of all of your Elders taking up valuable space while their descendants make moar baybies? Stick them in an Elder Living Community and get them out of your hair! This career is available when one of your founders ages to Elder. An Adult sim (either a CAS sim or a current citizen) becomes the Elder Living Community Manager. To live in the Community the Elder or their family must pay the ELCM §2000. The ELCM will receive payment from the Treasurer once per season of §400 per Elder in their care. The ELCM is exempt from taxes. Elders living in the Community cannot have careers and cannot own businesses.

 

Entertainment
The Entertainment career is available to any sim with maxed out Charisma. Once a sim enters this career a Circus is built (Business District is required). There can only be one Prestidigitator (lvl 10). University degree not needed for advancement.

 

Exterminator**

*Exterminate* *Exterminate* After a sim falls ill to the deadly diseases carried by trashcan roaches the Exterminator career is available to any brave soul that is ready to battle the nasty little creatures. Sims can now call the Exterminator sim instead of services (since you’re not allowed to call them anyway). No business is built. University degree is not needed to advance. Exterminator receives their own automobile.

 

Farmer *It is recommended that a founder has this career or everyone will die of hunger*
(not actually a career) A Farmer is a sim that uses his lot to grow fruits & vegetables, has a pond for fishing, and animals as livestock. The Farmer owns the Grocery Store. Sims cannot buy food without a Grocery Store. The Grocery Store is built after the 1st season rotation. **Exception: the family that owns the Grocery Store cannot buy groceries from it, thanks EAxis! Because of this they are the only sims that are allowed use the Grocery Delivery Service (or they can just eat off of the farm). Farmer receives their own automobile.

 

Fashion Design (custom career) (revised 4/23/17)
The Fashion Design career is available to any sim that has a silver badge in Sewing (able to sew clothing). Once a sim enters this career a Clothing Store is built (Business District required).  Sims without a University degree in Fashion Design cannot advance past Fashion Stylist (lvl 6). There can only be one High Fashion Designer (lvl 10).

 

Firefighter **
This career is unlocked to all after five fires occur in the city. I count all fires that could cause a negative “fire” memory or had to be put out by a sim including lightning fires. Once a sim enters this career a Fire Station is built. University degree is not needed to advance but a sim must learn Fire Prevention in order to reach lvl 2. Fire Fighter receives their own automobile.

 

Gamer (revised 3/26/16)
The Gamer career is available for any sim that has maxed their Games hobby enthusiasm. Once a sim enters this career an Internet Cafe or Arcade is built. Computers are now unlocked. When Game Designer (lvl 10) is reached a Software Company is built. There can only be one Guild Leader (lvl 9) and Game Designer (lvl 10). University degree not needed for advancement.

 

Gardener**
The Gardener career is available to any sim that has a gold badge in Gardening. If your sim needs their yard pruned they can call the Gardener sim instead of services (since you’re not allowed to call them anyway). University degree not needed for advancement. No business is built. Gardener receives their own automobile.

 

Housekeeper (Maid**)
Housekeeping! The Housekeeper career is available to any sim that has maxed their Cleaning skill. If your sim needs their house cleaned they can call the Housekeeper sim instead of services (since you’re not allowed to call them anyway). University degree not needed for advancement. No business is built.

 

Intelligence
Once the Military Base is unlocked the Intelligence career is available to a University grad (any degree) that graduated with a 4.0. The SCIA Headquarters is built at the Base. Teen/Elder versions of this career are unlocked without University degree. There can only be one Head of SCIA (lvl 10). The Head of the SCIA will have an office in City Hall.

 

Interior Design (custom career)
The Interior Design career is available to any sim with a bronze sewing badge (able to sew curtains). Once a sim reaches Residential Designer (lvl 6) a Furniture Store is built (Business District Required). Once a sim reaches Kitchen and Bath Designer (lvl 7) Kitchen and Bath items are included in the Furniture Store. Build mode items* are added to the Furniture Store once a sim reaches Commercial Designer (lvl 8). *Maybe… can you even sell build mode items in a store? There can only be one Interior Design Firm Owner** (lvl 10). **I changed a couple of the job names.

 

Journalism (revised 11/26/16)
The Journalism career is available once 5 news-worthy events happen (fire, burglary, death, alien abduction, electrocution). Once a sim reaches Obituary Writer (lvl 5) the career and major is unlocked and a Newspaper Office is built (Business District is required). Once a sim reaches Magazine Editor (lvl 9) sims can now subscribe to magazines. Sims without a University degree in Journalism cannot advance past Fact Checker (lvl 4). There can only be one Media Magnate (lvl 10).

 

Law
Once two sims become furious with each other bad things happen. Enter the Law! The sim entering this career must learn Couples Counseling. The career and major is unlocked when a sim becomes a Personal Injury Attorney (lvl 6). A Law Office is built. Sim cannot advance to Family Law Attorney (lvl 7) until the Courthouse is built (Judge Politics lvl 8). Sims without a University degree in Law cannot advance past Legal Biller (lvl 4). There can only be one The Law (lvl 10). The Law has an office in the City Hall.

 

Law Enforcement
After the first burglary this career is unlocked for all sims. University degree is not needed to advance. A Police Station is built once the sim reaches Patrol Officer (lvl 3). There can only be one SWAT Team Leader (lvl 8), Police Chief (lvl 9) and Captain Hero (lvl 10). Captain Hero has an office in the City Hall. Law Enforcement Officer receives their own automobile.

 

Mail Carrier**
Once an NPC Mail Carrier is added to regular rotation, either by marriage or because they wormed their way in like Brodie Mason, they unlock the Mail Carrier career. The Post Office is built. University degree is not needed for advancement.

 

Medicine
The Medical career is available when either a) any 3 sims become sick with the flu or b) a sim “assists” in 3 births (by assist I mean be on the lot when it happens). The Doctor must learn Physiology. The career and major is unlocked at Intern (lvl 4) and a Hospital is built (Business District is required). Sims without a University degree in Medicine cannot advance past EMT (lvl 1). There can only be one Chief of Staff (lvl 10). The Chief of Staff has an office in the City Hall.

 

Military
Once the Military Base is unlocked this career is open to all sims. See Military Base in Districts section. University degree not needed for advancement.

 

Music (revised 7/19/15)
The Music career is available to any sim that has maxed out their Music & Dance hobby enthusiasm. Once they enter this career a sim can build a Coffee Shop (that includes live band entertainment), a Bar (that includes live band entertainment – Business District Required), or a Club (DJ Booth or live band entertainment – Business District Required). At Studio Musician (lvl 7) a Recording Studio is built (Business District is required). Once they reach Concert Pianist (lvl 8) an Auditorium is built (Business District is required). There can only be one Symphony Conductor (lvl 9) and Rock God (lvl 10). University degree not needed for advancement.

 

Natural Science
The Natural Science career is available to a sim that has a gold Gardening badge and maxed out Nature enthusiasm. Once a sim enters this career a Natural Science Museum is built (Business District is required).  Sims without a University degree in Natural Science cannot advance past Clam Wrangler (lvl 3). There can only be one Ecological Guru (lvl 10).

 

Oceanography
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. The Oceanography career is available to any sim with a gold Fishing badge. Once a sim enters the career an Aquarium is built. When the sim reaches Marine Biologist (lvl 6) the career and major is unlocked.  Sims without a University degree cannot advance past Underwater Demolitionist (lvl 5). There can only be one Hand of Poseidon (lvl 10).

 

Paranormal (revised 8/30/16)
The truth is out there. This career is available to a sim that has an 8 or greater Paranormal Interest. Once a sim reaches Tarot Card Reader (lvl 3) a business must be built (Tarot and Tea Leaves shop? I have no idea). Police Station required for Police Psychic (lvl 7). Space Station (Military Base District) and/or an alien abduction of a resident is required for UFO Investigator (lvl 8). A Church is required for Exorcist (lvl 9). Once a sim reaches Cult Leader (lvl 10) a Cult Compound is built where the sim will live with their family (if they have one) and their “followers” (at least 5 other sims). Followers can be existing sims/families or created in CAS. You can create a separate sub-hood for the Cult if you wish. University degree not needed for advancement. There can only be one of each career level at a time.

 

Politics *It is recommended that a founder has this career* (revised 7/13/17)
The Politics career is available to a sim that knows a majority of sims (playable sims, not NPCs) in the city and has befriended 3 of them. The career and major are unlocked once the sim has reached City Council Member (lvl 5). The City Hall is built. Once a sim becomes a Judge (lvl 8) the Courthouse can be built (requires learning Couples Counseling). The Military Base can open once the sim becomes Mayor (lvl 10) if other criteria is met. A Mayoral Mansion will be built and the Mayor’s family will move in. There can only be one State Assemblyperson (lvl 6), Congressperson (lvl 7), Judge (lvl 8), Senator (lvl 9), and Mayor (lvl10). Mayor stays in position until death and can never retire. It’s good to be the King!

 

Priest
(Not really a career) If a sim survives 3 life-threatening events (whether it be electrocution, the flu, fire, etc.) or dies and is saved by the Grim Reaper they become aware of the Watcher and want to spread the Watcher’s word to the masses. After learning Lifelong Happiness this sim can choose to become a Priest. Choose a religion, Jacoban or Peteran, and build a Church. Preach on! Religious trait is passed down to descendants. There can be more than one Priest. Both religions are allowed or make up your own!

 

Prison Warden
(Not really a career) Is your town full of criminals, deadbeats, and thieves? Put ’em away Copper! Unlocked when either a) the Criminal career is unlocked, b) the first burglar is caught, or c) some sim doesn’t want to pay their taxes. A Prison is built and is owned by the Warden (Business District is required — must be a residence). The Treasurer pays the Warden $100 per Prisoner per season. The Warden can also have another career (Law Enforcement maybe?), but cannot own another business. University not needed for this career. There can only be one Warden.

 

Repair**
Once a sim maxes out their Mechanical skill they can become the town repairperson. If your sim needs something fixed they can call the Repair sim instead of services (since you’re not allowed to call them anyway). University degree not needed for advancement. No business is built. Repairperson receives their own automobile.

 

Repo / Bill Collection**
Once a sim fails to pay their bills, taxes or loans a Bill Collector is created to repossess collateral for the Bank/Treasurer. Repo Agent receives their own automobile.

 

Science
The Science career is available to all sims after they max their Science hobby enthusiasm. A Laboratory is then built (Business District is required). When they reach Science Teacher (lvl 4) the Science major* is unlocked. Scholar (lvl 7) can only be reached if University District is unlocked. Mad Scientist (lvl 10) can only be reached if Military Base is unlocked. Sims without a University degree in Science cannot advance past Lab Assistant (lvl 2). There can only be one Mad Scientist (lvl 10).

 

Show Business (revised 6/25/17)
Once a Movie Theater (maxed Film enthusiasm) is created a sim with maxed Charisma can enter the Show Business career. A Film/Movie Studio is built (Business District required). Broadway Star (lvl 7) cannot be achieved unless there is already an Auditorium (Music lvl 8). There can only be one Icon (lvl 10). Drama degree not needed, but doesn’t hurt.

 

Slacker
Whatever. I hate this career so let’s make it difficult to have, shall we. The Slacker career is unlocked to all sims when all of these criteria are met: the Business District is unlocked, a Coffee Shop business is created, a Gas/Service Station business is created, a Bar or Dance Club business is created, the Movie Theater is created, the Museum is created, and the Slacker sim must own a computer and cell phone and has to have had five Roof Raiser parties. Suck on that, Slacker. Do I even have to say a University degree is not needed? I do? Shesh.

 

Social Worker (revised 9/11/15)
(Not actually a career because you need to stay at home and take care of the kids) The Social Worker position can be created when either a) a child is orphaned, b) a child is taken away by neglectful parents, c) someone wants to adopt so you need to make adoptable sims or d) you want to use your earned CAS points to make children. The Social Worker must learn Parenting and their home will become an Orphanage. It’s a hard knock life, yo. University degree is not needed for advancement. There can only be one Social Worker. Social Worker receives their own automobile.

The Social Worker will receive payment from the Treasurer (Cost of Living Fees) once per season of §400 per Baby, §300 per Toddler, §200 per Child, and §100 per Teen in their care. The Social Worker is exempt from taxes. Children can be adopted by other sims and will cost the adopter (in “donations” to the Orphanage) the above prices times 3. So to adopt a Baby they would pay §1200, a Toddler §900, a Child §600, a Teen §300. (I am basing the value on RL where most people would rather adopt a baby than an older child so their value is decreased). When a Teen is ready to transition they can either go to University (if they can afford it) or are kicked out into the world with §2000 and whatever money they have received from their Teen job. The Military would be a great place for them to go.

Children taken from Social Worker because of child neglect will have to stay at the orphanage for the following rotation. Neglectful parents will have to study Parenting and pay Cost of Living fees per child in order to get them back.

 

Therapist
(not an actual career) When a sim is visited by the therapist and/or social bunny 3 times, they need serious help! The Therapist position is available after a sim learns Anger Management, Lifelong Happiness, Physiology, and Couple Counseling (yep, all of them). This sim can then open a Simitarium to cure the crazy sims (Business District is required). When sims experience aspiration failure they can go to the Simitarium for a day to chill out. Experiments can be done on crazy sims, just don’t tell anyone. Can be combined with other careers. University degree in Psychology required for future Therapists. There can only be one Therapist.

 

Woohoo Worker
(not an actual career) The Woohoo Worker career is open to any sim that has woohooed 20 different sims. Since you are now an expert at woohoo, you might as well get paid for it! The Woohoo Worker can now open a Woohoo House (Business District required) and hire other woohoo workers as employees (Cyjon’s Brothel Woohoo mod required. Worker sims do not have to have woohooed 20 sims). The Woohoo House will satisfy those romance sim customers with the woohoo x-amount of sims want. Woohoo workers will not satisfy their own woohoo wants (per the mod). University degree is not needed for advancement.
